Celebrate the closing of Radical Reading Room with an evening curated by Sparkle Nation Book Club, a literary-focused collective founded by artists and writers Precious Okoyomon, Gabrielle Rucker, and Diamond Stingily. Through intentional readings, workshops, and discussions, Sparkle Nation’s purpose is to directly challenge traditional academic notions of how to properly obtain, share, and utilize knowledge by promoting self-discipline and community-based autodidacticism. Participants are encouraged to read this selection of texts prior to the program.
The program will begin with readings by artist and writer S*an D. Henry-Smith on the occasion of their newly released chapbook Flotsam Suite: (2019), artist and writer Justin Chance, and poet Jasmine Gibson. Afterwards, Sparkle Nation Book Club will facilitate a discussion on the themes of poetic survival.
