When is the 2018 Artist-in-Residence program application due?
All materials (including recommendations) are due June 1, 2017
by midnight. Please be aware we receive a high volume of applications during the last day of the application period which can cause server problems. To avoid this, please submit your application in advance of the deadline.
Do you accept late applications?
Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications after the due date.
Do you accept paper applications?
No, the application must be completed online.
How much does it cost to apply?
There is no cost to apply to the Artist-in-Residence
Do you accept international applicants?
Yes, the program accepts applications working locally, nationally and internationally. Please note that the Museum cannot provide visa support.
When does the residency begin and end?
January 29, 2018. The residency is eleven months long.
What is the mission of this residency?
The Studio Museum in Harlem offers an eleven-month studio residency for three emerging artists working in any media. The program is designed to serve emerging artists of African and Latino descent working locally, nationally or internationally.
What kinds of documents does the application require?
Two recommendations, a resume (or CV), an artist statement. In addition, you can upload 8–10 images and videos. No word documents please.
When will I hear back about my application?
We expect to notify all applicants in early November 2017.
Can I receive feedback about my application?
The Museum receives hundreds of applications per year and, as a result, we are unable to provide feedback.
Do I need to have a specific project in mind before I apply?
No. You can apply with a portfolio of your works previously completed.
Can you tell me if I should apply?
Museum staff cannot advise you on your application.
Is there an education requirement for the residency?
No, there is no education requirement.
