Expanding the Walls Participants Become New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellows
Two participants in Expanding the Walls—an eight-month photography-based program at The Studio Museum in Harlem—were awarded The New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowship.
This fellowship grants the recipients who are interested in pursuing an art career with additional professional experience and a scholarship for their postgraduate studies. We are excited to introduce the two fellows: Shashamani and Yeremi. Congratulations!
Shashamani, 11th grade, says: "The Van Lier scholarship means the world to me. It’s such an honor to be chosen to participate in such efforts of art advancement. I look forward to reviewing my own art portfolio and working alongside curators and other artists. Being able to learn and grow from these kinds of experiences excites me, and I know how helpful they will be in the future. The New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowship is just another amazing aspect of being part of Expanding the Walls, and I am beyond grateful for what the future holds."
Yeremi, 10th grade, says: "Getting accepted for The New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowship is an honor and will have a big impact on the career I am pursuing in filmmaking. This is an amazing opportunity and I can’t wait to start meeting new artists and new people. This will be a very good experience that I will remember for seeing new artwork, meeting new people, and approaching new opportunities—and appreciating those memories."
